First Fire of the Holidays

Ahhh the Chimenea always warms the cockles of your heart...

Loy Krathong Festival - Parramatta

Friday, 22 November 2013 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales
We had a late lunch with Annie and Daniel, and made Krathong (lotus flower shaped boats, or lanterns) and went to the Loy Krathong Festival on Parramatta river.

The girls enjoyed some corn on the cob, launched the Krathong in the river and actually managed to stay awake until the fireworks display, which they really enjoyed.

Taronga Zoo

Friday, 13 April 2012 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales
We took the girls to Taronga Zoo. Last time we were there, Isabella was only about 1 so she doesn't remember it. They have really done a lot to make it easier to get around, stroll your way through the zoo too the bottom, and get the cable car back to the top. Very nice. Just don't eat the food - what a rip.

We saw the Koalas, Zebra, Elephants, Meerkats, Lizards and the Red Panda. We also enjoyed the bird show, which had Annabels complete attention (for a change).

Sydney Aquarium

Saturday, 23 July 2011 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales
We took the girls to Sydney Aquarium. Isabella has been before, but it was Annabels first visit.

Well, Annabel thought the big reef tanks were the best. She stood against the glass agog for 20 minutes, we simply couldn't shift her.

Picnic at Bents Basin

Saturday, 1 January 2011 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales / National Parks
Isabella stormed into our bedroom this morning declaring that she'd like to go for a picnic and a swim and that she'd love us forever and ever if we took her. Not wanting to turn down eternal devotion, we went.

We drove down to Bents Basin (about 50km south west of us in Sydney).

Isabella and Annabel both love being outside, and today was no exception. They swam, they ran, they looked for cicadas, they ate, all like it was going to be gone tomorrow.

As the thunderclouds began to build in the west, we headed home. We didn't even make it out of the park before they were both sound asleep in the car.

Landing in Sydney Fog

Check this out - Sydney submerged in fog. Only Centrepoint tower and a couple other building breaking through the murk at dawn. Eeerie.

Camping at Coolendel, and Fitzroy Falls.

Friday, 13 November 2009 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales
We took the girls camping with Gina and Matthew. Between the 6 people camping it was the first time camping in Australia for 5 of them.

We had a splendid weekend. Swimming in the Shoalhaven river was perfect and not to cold - getting Isabella back out of the water was the only problem.

We saw Cockatoos, Peacocks, Wombats, Wallabies, Goannas, Phesants and Possums. Isabella was chief wildlife spotter, Annabel was trying for Pro league hardcore sleeper titles - the fresh air and warm breeze were just right for her.

On the drive home I took Kangaroo Valley through Bowral and the Campden bridge. We stopped for coffee at Fitzroy Falls.

Coolendel's website...

Isabella goes to the snow.

Saturday, 5 September 2009 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales
We took Isabella to Thredbo for the weekend on a trip organised by her auntie Gina.

We rented her the most adorable little Gortex jumpsuit and she was as warm as toast. We took the chairlift to Eagles Nest, played in the snow, chucked snowballs and had a bite to eat at Australias highest restaurant bunker.

We discovered Isabella's long trip tollerance for the car is about 4 hours per day. Unfortunately, the drive to and from Jindabyne is 4.5 hours :)

Wollemi National Park

Saturday, 2 May 2009 | link | tag | / Trips / Australia / New South Wales / National Parks
We took a day trip to Woolemi national park - mainly just a drive up Putty Road and a few stops along the road.

I took a wander up one of the creek beds near the road and found some amazing nooks you don't see from the road.

Blue Mountains daytrip

We've spent so many weekends at home that we had to get out today, and the nearest location you can do that is the Blue Mountains. We packed Isabella, some food and the camera in the car and headed to Katoomba via the tourist drive. We stopped on the way home and walked to Princes Rock lookout at Wentworth Falls. Isabella loved the sound of the falls and jumping in the puddles on the path.
